Aquainnz Ltd can assist with resolving a variety of issues associated with the storage and use of hazardous substances and compliance with the HSNO Act. Aquainnz Ltd has EPA approval to issue both Location Test Certificates and Approved Handler Certificates. For details please check this page.

Approved Handler Certificates

Many hazardous substances require someone with an Approved Handler Certificate to be available. For some this just means contactable by phone, for others this means on site whenever the substance is not securely stored. Aquainnz can assess Approved Handler applications, and issue certificates. See "Approved Handler Certificates" for more details.

Approved Handler Courses

An important part of becoming an Approved Handler is to demonstrate your knowledge of the HSNO Act, it's purpose, requirements and the penalties which can be imposed under the Act. Aquainnz Ltd run courses throughout the year covering the HSNO Act. These courses include assessments to ensure you understand the required information. Attending such a course, and passing the assessments is one way to prove you know enough about the HSNO Act to become an approved handler. Tailor-made courses can also be provided for employers with multiple employees applying to become approved handlers or for specific hazardous substances they wish to have covered in detail. If you wish to attend an approved handlers course please do not hesitate to contact us.

Location Test Certificates (LTCs)

Some hazardous substances, when present in greater than specified quantities, require a LTC. Aquainnz Ltd can issue LTCs. If a location does not meet the requirements of the HSNO Act, we can work with you to bring your site into complicance. More details about the process and requirements for a LTC can be found here.

Emergency Response Plans

In many cases, a detailed emergency response plan is required before a location test certificate can be issued. Aquainnz Ltd can create an emergency response plan for your company, or help you update your current plan to ensure it meets the requirements of the HSNO Act.

Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

When hazardous substances are present at a site, you are required to have a detailed MSDS available for each substance. Each employee must know where to find these, and how to use them. Aquainnz Ltd can help you put together an MSDS folder for your work place. This may be particularly useful if you have a large number of hazardous substances at your work place.

Packaging, labelling & signage

Aquainnz Ltd can give you advice on the packaging and labelling of your hazardous substances. We can also provide advice in relation to signage that may be required when you store and/or use hazardous substances.

Stationary container test certificates

The HSNO Act requires you to have a stationary container test certificate for tanks holding LPG, petrol or diesel. Furthermore, tanks holding petrol or diesel must have a secondary containment system which meets the requirements specified in the HSNO Act. Many tanks installed before 1 April 2004 may not meet these requirements. These tanks may be issued a certificate under the "Code of Practice for the Management of Existing Stationary Containment Systems up to 60,000 Litres Capacity." Aquainnz Ltd can assist in obtaining a stationary container test certificate for tanks installed before 1 April 2004.
